A Muslim in the Middle in France

This article in the New York Times describes French government efforts to establish a formal representative council for the more than four million Muslims living in France. Muslims constitute France's second most numerous religious population, after Christians. Peace Councilor Dr. Dalil Boubakeur heads the new council, but he has been placed in a difficult position because his moderate and modernist stance is at odds with the views of two other French Muslim organizations that together have elected a majority of the representatives on the new Council.
