Madison, WI, July 12, 2006: Spot FilmWorks, Ltd. is pleased to announce that the Public Service Campaign for the International Peace Council, directed by Michael Graf has won a prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award. The CINE Golden Eagle awards, distinguishing excellence in professional and amateur works, are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in filmmaking and videography. Since its founding in 1957, CINE has been dedicated to discovering, rewarding, educating and supporting established and emerging talent in film and television.

Among great talents whose first major awards included the CINE Golden Eagle are Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard, and such great documentarians as Ken Burns, Charles Guggenheim, Stanley Nelson and Albert Maysles.

In the spring 2006 Competition, over 300 judges viewed and evaluated hundreds of distinguished entries. Experienced professionals in the field of film production, as well as subject matter experts, serve in a volunteer capacity. They judge entries using such criteria as writing, sound, editing, creativity, visuals, insights and the extent to which the film meets its stated goals and communicates with its intended audience.

All of the competitive awards will be presented in the Annual CINE Awards Ceremony, to be held in Washington, DC in April, 2007. Prizes and awards worth over $25,000 are associated with these awards.

The nationally broadcast public service campaign was filmed in Madison and features various Madison residents speaking in their native languages about how war and ethnic hatred has personally impacted their lives. Each person holds tattered and precious photographs of loved ones lost to violence. While the languages are all different, the emotional context is akin. The commercial ends with a graphic that asks, "Is the language of peace universal? You tell us."

"The power of these spots is that nothing is scripted, each is an actual life story; the brave people that stepped forward to talk about their families and the loss of loved ones to war and ethnic hatred are not strangers living in far-away lands. They are literally our neighbors; they are our local business owners, our doctors, our scientists, our students and our teachers," says Michael Graf, Spot FilmWorks President and director of the commercials. "I've directed hundreds of commercials and the work on this campaign, filming these people tell their stories, was the most meaningful experience of my professional career."

The pro bono campaign was produced by Spot FilmWorks, Ltd and written by Ross Lowinske of Serve, Inc., a non-profit advertising agency that provides advertising for underserved non-profit organizations. Other people and companies that donated time and resources to bring this campaign to life include: Gary Mueller, Creative Director, Kelly Ladwig, Producer, Linda Massey, Production Designer, David Kessler, cinematographer, Salisbury Studios, still photography, Delta Storage for location, Independent Edit for editorial services, and S2 (formerly Swell Pictures) for film transfer and color correction. In addition to the CINE Golden Eagle award, the campaign has won the prestigious AAF Mosaic Award, the National Telly Award, Best PSA Campaign honors at the Madison Advertising Federation's Addy Awards and an AAF 8th District award for best PSA campaign.
